The average cost adjustment feature uses a Generic Code (gencode) table to restrict and control the general ledger accounts that a cost adjustment can be charged or posted to. The Gencode table records can be loaded with a descriptive explanation for each adjustment reason (price variance, depreciation, update non-stock, etc.) and the records also store the information used by the system to identify the general ledger account that will be used for the transaction. This approach allows operators to process the transaction but allows the accountant or other person setting up the generic code table to determine the proper GL accounts to be updated for each write-off reason.
