Bin Transfer

The Bin Transfer Program is used to transfer bin quantities from one bin location to another bin location in the same warehouse.  The Bin Transfer program is activated from the Bin Management program when a valid Bin record is selected in the Bin Management program and the Select Current Item to Transfer or the Select all items in bin to Transfer Button is pressed.

The Bin Transfer program allows you to

Transfer a single item from one bin to another bin in the same inventory warehouse.

Transfer all of the items in a specific bin location to another bin location in the same warehouse.

Optionally set the destination bin as the default bin for the item (or items) being transferred.

When the Bin Transfer program is activated it will display the warehouse location and the bin code that is being processed (the source bin) in the top section of the program.

The main section of the program will display one or more bins – based on the button that was used to call the program from the Bin Management program.

If  you pressed the Select Current Item to Transfer Button, the program will display the Item number,  item description, and the free quantity for the selected Bin in the main section of the program

If you pressed the Select all items in bin to Transfer Button, the program will display all bin records with the bin code that is selected when the button is pressed.  This option will display multiple item numbers if you have more than one item assigned to a single bin location code.   For each bin, the program will display the Item number, item description and the Free Quantity for the bin in the main section of the program.

The Item Number, Item description and the Qty Free columns in the transfer program are loaded from the selected Bin records and they may not be changed in the Bin Transfer program.

Once you have verified that the correct bin or bin records have been selected, you may accept or change the default Transfer quantity that is defaulted into the Transfer Column in the main section of the program.  The Transfer column is used to specify the quantity to be transferred from the selected bin and it defaults to the free quantity (unallocated or uncommitted quantity) for the bin – the quantity not reserved for printed pull or picktickets.

You may not transfer more than the free quantity for each bin being processed – this prevents you from moving items from bins that have been reserved for open pull or pick tickets.

Once you have accepted or changed the Transfer quantity for each bin, you should also specify the destination bin for each item beiing transferred.  The destination bin for each transfer will default to the default bin for the item (if specified) in the inventory record for the item – in the warehouse being processed.  The default destination bin can be accepted or changed as required (based on the actual bin you are transferring the item to).  The source and destination bin for the item must also be different (you will receive an error message if you try to transfer a bin quantity to the same bin being processed).

If you are transferring multiple items to the same destination bin, you may also specify the destination bin once, then use the Copy Current Bin to all Button to copy this destination bin into the To Bin column for all items being processed.  When you select this option, the system loads all items in the transfer program with the To Bin that is highlighted or selected when the button is pressed.

If you wish to make the new destination bin the default bin for the item in the warehouse being processed, you may also check the Set as Default Bin Checkbox.  If this checkbox is checked, the system will update the default bin field in the inventory record for the item in the warehouse being processed with the value in the To Bin field.

Once you have specified the quantity to be transferred, the new destination bin and have optionally checked the Set as Default Bin Checkbox as required, you may press the Transfer Button to complete the bin transfer.  At this point, the system will update the source and destination bins, it will write warehouse activity records to document the transaction, and it will update the inventory records in the selected warehouse (if required) with the new default bin for each item.
