Component Serial Number Lookup

The Component Serial Number Lookup program allows you to view the serial numbers of any serialized components or by products that have been associated or “linked” to a top level serialized item in the Shop Floor System.

The Component Serial Number Lookup can be accessed from within the Serial Management program, and it can also be accessed from the Shop Order Management program (from the Shop Order Serial Number List).

The Component Serial Number Lookup program allows you to view component serial numbers that have been associated or linked to a top level serialized item in the Shop Floor System.   The Component Serial Number Lookup can be used to display the serial detail for shop orders that are in process and that have not been completed, and it can also be used to display the serial detail for shop orders that have already been completed.

When the Component Serial Number Lookup is activated, the program takes the Comment No (a unique numeric field that is used to specifically id each serial record) from the selected serial record and it and it searches for any serial records that have this unique id loaded into the Parent field.  The Parent field is used to link or associate the component and by product serial numbers for a top level serialized item to the serial record for the top level item (each component or by product serial number used to produce a top level serialized part is loaded with the parent serial number).

The information which is displayed in the Component Serial Lookup will depend on the status of the shop order being processed and on whether the selected serial record has been associated with a top level part.

If the shop order has not been pulled completely pulled, the system blocks you from linking the component and top level serial numbers and no component detail should be displayed.

If the shop order has been completely pulled, but the serial numbers for the shop order have not been “linked”, no component detail should be displayed by the program.

If the shop order has been completely pulled, the components and by products have been linked to the top level serial records, and the shop order is still open, the Component Serial Lookup should display the serialized components and by products for the shop order.  Serial records for the component items should show a status of W (work in process), and Serial records for any by products should show a status of P (in production).  The top level serial records should have a status of B (being built).

If the shop order has been completely pulled, the components and by products have been linked to the top level serialized item and the shop order has been completed, the Component Serial Lookup should display the serialized components and by products for the shop order.  Serial records for the component items should show a status of C (consumed – by building the top level item).  The status of the serial records for any by product items produced by the shop order, and the top level items produced by the shop order can vary.  The Serial records for the by products are set to status I (in stock) when the shop order is completed, and the current status depends on the transactions that have taken place for the items since the shop order was completed (the items have may have a status of I or S or L, or another status based on whether the items were sold, loaned out or otherwise processed after the shop order was completed).

The Component Serial Number Lookup displays the Component Serial Numbers that have been linked to or associated with the selected top level serial record.  When a valid top level serial record is displayed in the Shop Order Serial Number List and the Component Serial Numbers option is selected, the system displays the Component Serial Number Lookup.  The Component Serial Number Lookup displays the components and by products that have been linked to the selected top level or parent serial number and it allows you access detailed information about each serial record shown in the program.  This information includes the Serial Master information for the record, and the transactions that have been created for the serial record in the Serial History file.

The Component Serial Numbers Lookup can be used to display the serial detail for a top level item that is currently being processed in the shop order system, and it can also be used to view the component serial detail for top level items that have already been assembled and sent to the end user.
