When an IFT Transfer is processed, a PO is processed for the destination location. As the PO is saved, the system creates a sales order to be shipped out of the source inventory location. The PO and the Sales Order both contain line items for the items being transferred.
The IFT sales order is processed as a Loaner order. When the items being transferred are shipped, and the Loaner order is completed, the system moves the item quantities and costs from inventory into the Pending file. The serial records for the items being transferred are changed to show a status of L (indicating that they are in the Pending file or are in Loaner status), and Serial History records are written to record the shipment of the goods and to link the serial numbers to the Shipper document that is created by the transaction.
When the items being transferred are received at the destination inventory location, the purchase order used to create the IFT transfer is used to receive the shipment. When the PO is processed in the Receiving program, the system will automatically default the serial detail for each item based on the serial numbers that were processed when the shipment was sent out. These Serial Master records are linked to the Pending records for the transfer.
As the IFT PO is received, the Serial Master records being processed are changed from L (Loaner) to I (In stock or In house) status, and a type PR Serial History record is created to document the movement of each Serial Number to the destination warehouse. When an IFT transfer is processed, the Serial Detail for both Serialized and Sales Track Only (Serial Y and Serial S) items must be specified (the Order Completion program requires them in order to invoice the IFT Sales Order.
