Component Serial Numbers

The Component Serial Number Lookup program allows you to view the serial numbers of any serialized components or by products that have been associated or “linked” to a top level serialized item in the Shop Floor System.

The Component Serial Number Lookup can be accessed from within the Serial Management program, and it can also be accessed from the Shop Order Management program (from the Shop Order Serial List).

The Component Serial Number Lookup program allows you to view component serial numbers that have been associated or linked to a top level serialized item in the Shop Floor System.   The Component Serial Number Lookup can be used to display the serial detail for shop orders that are in process and that have not been completed, and it can also be used to display the serial detail for shop orders that have already been completed.

When the Component Serial Number Lookup is activated, the program takes the Comment No (a unique numeric field that is used to specifically id each serial record) from the selected serial record and it and it searches for any serial records that have this unique id loaded into the Parent field.  The Parent field is used to link or associate the component and by product serial numbers for a top level serialized item to the serial record for the top level item (each component or by product serial number used to produce a top level serialized part is loaded with the parent serial number).

Note:  Kit Items (items which are bundled together and “kitted” on the fly), can also include serialized components.  Kit components are not tied to a serialized item (the kit item itself does not exist and cannot be serialized). Instead, each serialized item in the kit is tied to the invoice line item.  The component serial numbers can be viewed individually in the Serial Management program.
