Item Specific Comments

StreamV allows you to create “comments” or text notes and associate them with other database records such as customers, catalog records, sales order headers or lines, invoices, purchase orders, etc. The number of comments that is supported for each type of database record normally depends on if the data record is static or transactional. Static data is data that is re-used by the system such as a Customer record or a Catalog item. Transactional data is data such as a sales order header or line item that is used for transaction processing and then closed.

In general, the system allows you to create and maintain multiple different comments for each static data item in the system and it allows at least one (sometimes more than one) comment for each transaction type data record. This logic is covered in more detail in the Comments Application Note.

The Product Catalog records in StreamV are static data records – meaning that the records are used multiple times, and that the system supports multiple comments for each Catalog Record.

All Comments that are associated with Product Catalog and Inventory records are assigned a comment Source of IN, and the Ident field in the comment record is loaded with the item number that the comment is associated with.

The Comments that can be created for each Catalog Record fall into one of the following types.

User Comment – A user comment is a free form note that can be attached to a Catalog record. If present, the comment can be viewed from the Catalog or the Inventory records for the item. User Comments are assigned a line number in the comment file from 1 -1000. The system automatically assigns the next available comment line number for the item based on the existing comments for the item.

Standard Comments – A Standard comment is a comment that is assigned a specific line number in the range of 1000-1999. Standard Comments allow you to predefine specific comment number that will be used for specific purposes – such as Extended Inventory Description Comments, Item Picklist, Quote and Purchase Order Comments, Item Invoice Comments. Item Shop Order Comments, Returns Comments and Shipping Comments.

The Standard Comments that are Supported for each Catalog Item Include the following
