Point of Sale Creating New Customers

The Point of Sale Program allows you to quickly create new customer records.  The POS program provides you with several options for creating new customers.  These options include

      Fast Entry or Quick Setup The Fast Entry or Quick Setup option is available from the Customer Lookup program that is used in the POS program.  The Fast Entry or Quick Setup option allows you to quickly enter a minimal, limited amount of information for each new customer into a grid.  The information that is entered into the grid is user defined based on the situation.  The system takes the information that is entered into the grid, and the new record default information that you have defined for new POS customer records, and it creates a new customer (and optional contact) record, for the new customer.  Once the customer has been created, they can be selected and used in the POS program.

      New Customer Button The New Customer Button in the POS program allows you to access a customer setup program that contains a subset of the fields that are maintained in each customer record.  The operator can enter name, address, and telephone information for the new customer into the panel, and the system uses this information and the new record default information that you have specified for new customers, to create a new customer record.  The new customer can then be selected and used for a POS transaction.  The primary difference between the fast entry and the new customer button is that the new customer button allows you to use more advanced options such as address validation during the customer setup process.

      Customer Lookup The Insert New Customer option in the customer Lookup program allows you to create a new customer record using the Customer Detail program.  The Customer Detail program allows you to access all of the maintained fields in each customer record, and to view, edit and create data that is associated with customer records such as comments, images, shiptos, resale certificates, special pricing records, and other information.  The Customer Detail program will validate the address and other information that is entered for each new customer and it will not allow the customer (or associated records) to be saved until all required fields have been loaded with valid data.
