This section provides some information about where the serialized inventory flags for each item were located and how they were used in prior versions of the system.
Note: In System revisions prior to revision 278C, the Serial flags for each item were maintained in two separate fields in each Catalog and Inventory record. The Serial Flag was used to determine if the item was serialized at all and could be set to Y or N. The Serial Receipt flag was used to determine if the item was serialized at receiving, or whether the serial numbers for the item were input only when the item was sold. The settings that were previously used for the flags are described below.
• If the Serial Receipt flag for an item was set to Y and the Serial flag for the item was set to Y, the item was serialized at receipt (this option was equivalent to setting the serial flag to Y in the newer version of the system).
• If the Serial Receipt for the flag was set to N and the Serial Flag for the item was set to Y, the serial numbers for the item were not recorded at receipt – and serial numbers for the items were recorded only when the item was sold (this option was equivalent to setting the serial flag to S in the newer version of the system). Please note that this setting or option is not recommended as it does not provide the same level of control as the Serial = Y option does).
• If the Serial flag was set to N, the item was not serialized at all.
