The Type Selection Checkboxes are located in the lower section of the Shop Order Management program. The Type Selection Checkboxes are used to select the shop order type or types to be displayed by the Shop Order Management program. There are two valid types of shop orders. Production orders are shop orders which are used to produce top level items, and these shop orders will reserve and be allocated inventory based on the schedule date entered for the order and the availability of the products that are required for the order.
A Forecast type shop order is a shop order that does not reserve inventory and that is not used to produce top level items. Forecast orders are used to produce materials requirements reports and to determine future demand for components.
