Editing a Serial History Record

The system is designed to track all of the transactions (history) associated with each serialized inventory item.  Serial History records are created automatically by the system when serialized items are received, invoiced, or transferred.  The system also creates Serial History records when the Serial Master information for an item is manually changed by the operator (a Serial Master record is created by the system whenever the serial number, item number, owner, vendor, sold to, or location of a serialized item is changed by the operator).  The operator should not need to manually edit a Serial History record under normal circumstances.  In the unlikely event that an operator needs to edit an existing serial history record (it is not recommended), the operator may do so (if he has been granted the appropriate security rights).  To edit a record, the operator should.

Select the Serial Master Screen from the menu.

Locate and highlight the serial master record associated with the transaction to be edited and press the ENTER key.  Once the operator presses the ENTER Key, the Serial History window is displayed and the transactions associated with the selected serialized inventory item are listed inside the window.

Select (highlight) the transaction to be edited with the light bar and the ARROW keys and press the ENTER key.  Once the ENTER key is pressed, the system displays the Serial History Detail window and the operator may edit the fields within the window as required.  Operators without editing rights may view records within the Serial History Detail window but may not change the information being displayed.

Save the changes by entering through the rest of the fields within the Serial History Detail window.

Enter a note describing why the change was made (optional).  Pressing the F3 key from within the Serial History window causes the system to display the Comment window which allows the operator to attach a comment to the selected Serial History record.  The comment may later be viewed from within the Serial History window or it may be printed on the Serialized Inventory reports.  To enter a note, the operator highlights the appropriate record, presses the F3 key to display the Comment window and inputs the desired information.  The operator then presses the SAVE key to save the changes and return to the Serial History window.
